Local Authorities Coming on Board to Support Hub

ECH News

Eastern Community Homes is pleased to announce that this week our official Offer of Support to Local Authorities and a supporting letter from the Chair of Eastern Community Homes and the Chair of the East of England LGA is being sent to all 50 local authorities in the East of England. These local authorities cover the counties of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk, and Suffolk.

The offer outlines how Eastern Community Homes will work to support local authorities over the next 2 years including:

  • Raising awareness and training for local authorities and their local councils and communities.
  • Sharing expertise and experience of community-led housing across all 50 councils and their local councils and communities.
  • Supporting the development of planning and housing policy to enable community-led housing.
  • Delivering technical advice and support to local councils and communities from inception to completion of community-led housing.

To deliver this offer, the Hub will be asking all councils in the East of England to make a small grant to Eastern Community Homes and sign up for the first two years at the cost of £1,500 each year or £3,000. The business plan anticipates the Hub will be financially sustainable from 2023.

The Eastern Community Homes Offer is being sent to Leaders and Chief Executives of the 50 local authorities, as well as to their housing officers or departments, on the week commending 9th November 2020.

Furthermore, our 4th local authority network meeting is being held on Thursday 19th November for housing representatives across these local authorities. This will be an opportunity to discuss the offer as well as a presentation from the Community Housing Programme Manager at the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority.  This will provide insight into some of the many schemes they have enabled as well her views on how local authorities can accelerate community led housing.
