Communities creating homes: supporting community-led housing approaches in your local authority
An online event to be held on Tuesday 28 November 2023, 10am – 11.30am, chaired by Cllr Jacqui Taylor, Chair of the EELGA People and Communities Panel and portfolio holder for housing at St Albans District Council.
A growing number of people living in both urban and rural areas have little access to housing through the traditional housing market. Community-led housing enables people to take charge of their own housing and gives them more of a say in the place they live.
Hosted by East of England Local Government Association and Eastern Community Homes, this free event will:
- introduce community-led housing, covering the different types and approaches to building communities and places.
- outline the support that is available to local authorities from Eastern Community Homes, the region’s community-led housing advice hub.
- examine case studies from Chelmsford City Council and Maldon District Council which demonstrate how local authorities in the East of England are supporting communities to bring forward community-led housing as part of their growth and housing strategies.
- provide plenty of time for discussion and for you to ask any further questions.
This event is aimed at local authority leaders, members and planning/housing officers and will be particularly suitable for new councillors that wish to learn more about the possibilities of the delivery of community-led housing.
